Dr. Jennifer Muehrcke

Dr. Muehrcke is a Full-Time Instructor at Cape Fear Community College.  Her courses include: Chorus,  Applied and Class Voice, Applied Woodwinds, Music Theory III & IV, Music Appreciation, and Music Fundamentals.

As a clinician, she has worked with bands, orchestras, and choruses throughout North Carolina, Washington, Ohio, and Louisiana.  Dr. Muehrcke has instructed oboe methods courses at the University of Washington and woodwinds for Cuyahoga Community College in Ohio, as wel as the Seattle Center of Music, and the Cascade Youth Orchestra in Washington.

Dr. Muehrcke’s primary instruments include oboe, English horn and voice as a mezzo soprano.  She also performs and instructs the flute, clarinet, saxophone and bassoon.

Currently, she performs as a professional oboist throughout North and South Carolina. Her recent ensemble performances include: the Eastern Symphony Orchestra, the South Carolina Philharmonic, Long Bay Symphony, Upper Room Theatre, Tallis Chamber Orchestra, and Carolina Vocal Arts Ensemble.

Prior to relocating to North Carolina from Washington State, Dr. Muehrcke was a tenured member of the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra, and performed with the New World Symphony, North West Sinfonietta, Bowdoin International Festival Orchestra, and the Ohio Light Opera.  Throughout her lifetime, she has performed in a variety of ensembles that have toured internationally.  Her musical travels have taken her to the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Switzerland, Brussels, Belgium, and Japan.

Recent solo performances include: oboe and mezzo soprano at the Cape Fear Community College Faculty Recital; oboe for the Music on First Recital Series; and guest artist in a Faculty Recital featuring Oboe and English Horn Quartets at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.  In addition, Dr. Muehrcke has appeared as a soloist with the Taillis Chamber Orchestra, University of Washington Wind Ensemble, and the Interlochen Faculty Orchestra.  Dr. Muehrcke completed her Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Washington, Seattle in June of 2012.  She also has a Masters of Music from Louisiana State University and a Bachelors of Music from Kent State University.  Her primary oboe teachers include Nathan Hughes, Linda Strommen, Jeffrey Rathbun and Danna Sundet.
