SGA General Assembly Meeting

Minutes

March 25, 2013

 

Call to Order:

Jamir Jumoke called the meeting to order at 4:05pm.

Attendance:

Welcome:

Our guests were welcomed by Dr. Ted Spring, President of Cape Fear Community College.

 SGA Announcements:

CFCC’s Got Talent: Wednesday, April 17, 2013 will be CFCC’s First Talent Show. Competition will be held during Spring Fling. Prizes will be awarded!

Works on Wilmington: Saturday, April 20, 2013, time TBA. All interested in volunteering for this great opportunity to give back to our community are encouraged to contact Courtney Hull at cdhull685@mail.cfcc.edu.

Earth Day Recycle Drive and Environmental Awareness Campaign: Monday, April 22, 2013. SGA and CFCC Bookstores will be collecting bottles, cans, newspapers and phonebooks for recycling. There will be giveaways. Other community interest groups will be on hand to bring the issues of our environment to light and offer simple ways that we can help lessen the impact on our environment.

Book Drive to benefit Sunset Park Elementary School: The drive is running through April 19, 2013. Collection sites are on both campuses. Books appropriate for grades K-5 are welcome. Help bring the gift of literacy to our local elementary students!

D.C. Virgo Charter School Visits CFCC: April 22, 2013 the student council of DC Virgo will visit CFCC to tour the campus and attend our SGA General Assembly Meeting. Any club that would like to offer a 5 or so minute presentation to these students should contact Courtney Hull at cdhull685@mail.cfcc.edu no later than Wednesday, April 17, 2013 to be added to the agenda.

Club/Organization Announcements:

Nuclear Technology: Web site is up and running! They are very excited that in the 5 years the program has been offered, this is their inaugural club! They are looking to partner with other clubs and organizations in helping with events and such.

Student Ambassadors: The Student Ambassador Application Deadline has been extended to Monday April 1, 2013.

Special Guest Speaker:

New Hanover County Commissioner Jonathan Barfield spoke to the attendees about the importance of leadership and shared some of the qualities that leaders possess.

SGA Executive Council 2012-2013 Testimonials:

The current Executive Council shared some of their experiences with SGA this year and encouraged others to get involved in SGA next year.

Application and Election Process:

Courtney Hull and Chris Libert shared with the attendees the process for the upcoming SGA elections. The important dates are as follows:

Friday, April 5, 2013: Applications are due to Student Activities L-110 no later than 5pm.

Monday and Tuesday, April 8-9, 2013: All approved candidates will be notified and will need to prepare a 2-3 minute campaign speech to be recorded for the Web site with Chris Libert.

Wednesday, April 10, 2013: Campaigning begins and will run through 5pm on Thursday, April 18, 2013. All candidates should plan to use Spring Fling in order to campaign for their position!

Adjournment:

Jamir Jumoke adjourned the meeting at 5:45pm at which time the interested students were able to meet with the current officers and ask questions about SGA.
