Welcome to the Science Department at Cape Fear Community College!
As you read through this website, I hope that you will realize that the faculty and staff in our department recognize the central role the study of Science plays, not only in the degree you will eventually obtain, but, indeed, in the understanding of human life and ability. We are committed to creating the most supportive and intellectually stimulating environment for anyone interested in any of our disciplines. Our labs, field trips and hands-on classroom methods are just a few examples of what we do to bring the subject of science to life.
As department chairperson, I see our mission as providing an excellent foundation for the understanding of Biology, Geology, Chemistry and Physics. I also believe that the disciplines that embody the Science Department, perhaps more than most other academic fields of study, train students to share their world with a real sense of human consequence. We have accepted our school’s directive to demonstrate the importance of critical thinking and in the knowing and application of the scientific method. All of these, together with the integration of global awareness and technology, are done in ways that stress CFCC’s goal of providing a well rounded and practical educational experience. We want our graduates fully prepared to continue their education at another school of higher learning or be job ready so they can start a career in the field they have worked so hard to enter.
I appreciate your interest in our department and disciplines and would encourage you to stay in touch with us if you have any questions or suggestions. The department’s main offices are located at the Downtown Campus on the second floor of the Science Building (N-Building) Room 203. The N-Building is adjacent to the Galehouse (A-Building) on North Front Street. We invite you to stop by with any questions. Students are encouraged to drop by our offices anytime they need curriculum worksheets, help with advising, details of an instructor’s schedule, or to speak with the chair of the department. For more in-depth information about our courses, instructors or syllabi, please use the links on the main menu.
We are here to serve the needs of all students at CFCC.
